Engineering Assistant III / Lab Technician


In support of our client, a tier one automotive supplier, we are searching for a Engineering Assistant to join their team on a project located in Fishers, IN. This is a long-term contract opportunity with an expected duration of 10-12 months.

Qualified candidates will have some troubleshooting and hands on technical testing experience in a manufacturing environment. Prior experience working for an automotive supply manufacturer preferred. Local candidates preferred, but out of state candidates will be considered.

 

Engineering Assistant Duties and Responsibilities:

The essential functions of this position could include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Physical and Chemical testing of Air Springs/components and record collected data per the Test Request (TR)
  • Testing, Product Development & Scheduling
  • Develop testing procedures and programs to attain the desired results from Physical Testing Lab with a minimum of or no supervision
  • Take all steps needed to ensure assemblies to be tested are fully identified, have necessary fixtures designed, made, and checked for suitability and availability at time of test
  • Complete responsibility for ensuring that completed test results are written up and promptly given to person who requested the test
  • Conducts programs and carries out work of developing new and revised construction of parts, as well as building, preparation, and mounting of experimental parts and test samples with a minimum of supervision
  • Setup test geometries to achieve the requested test parameters
  • Prepare test chambers to meet requested environment conditions
  • Physical and clerical organization of incoming test samples
  • Calibration, training and Quality management
  • Lab efficiency maintenance
  • Measurement and assembly of received parts

 

Engineering Assistant Qualifications

  • Hands on Technical Testing Experience (4 years)
  • Test Lab Experience Preferred
  • High School Diploma or equivalency
  • Hands on Mechanical Assembly Experience Preferred
  • Machine Programming Experience Preferred

 

Daily Work Environment Requirements

  • Generally normal working conditions in a controlled temperature facility. Working with tools on fixture and environment setups can cause contact to grease and oil
  • Occasionally working flexed hours are needed to cover start/stop of testing
  • Safety glasses and safety shoes are required

 

Physical Job Requirements

  • Test setups require lifting fixtures into place and torque values applied to tightening bolts/screws
  • Standing/walking on concrete floor is required daily
  • Working from a ladder is sometimes required
