Sr. Designer/Jr. Project Engineer

In support of our client, a global manufacturer and supplier to the OCTG market with facilities in the Houston area. ResourceTek is seeking an experienced Sr. Designer/Jr. Project Engineer to join our team and support multiple manufacturing operations in the surrounding areas. This is a long-term contract opportunity that could last for up to one year or longer.

Position Summary

  • Design and customization of products/systems in accordance with customer (internal and external) specifications/business needs.
  • Creates the deliverables [general arrangements, manufacturing drawing, Part Numbers, BOM, O&M] in a fashion that is considered on-time and on budget.

Role Responsibilities

  • Design equipment using 3D / 2D models and drawings. Specifically, create general arrangements for submittal, process & instrumentation diagrams, assemblies, weldments, or fabrication drawings as required for each project.
  • Create Material Masters and BOMs
  • Select equipment in accordance with customer specifications or product standards.
  • Employ principals of ‘design for manufacturability’ as applicable.
  • Perform or support calculations to support design methodology.
  • Collaborate with project team to address technical decisions, coordinate work, and execute project plan.
  • Collaborate with Product Manager to address technical decision, coordinate work and execute product development plan.
  • Interface with vendors to validate component selection, consider alternatives, and ensure compliance with customer driven specification requirements.
  • Engage with manufacturing on site to address design and manufacturing questions.
  • Support sales related activities by developing drawings for use in proposals during the bid phase of projects.

Technical Expertise

  • Experience with Autocad 2D mandatory.

  • Experience with 3D parametric CAD software required (SolidWorks preferred)

  • Experience creating or modifying mechanical drawings, part numbers and BOMs

Business Knowledge

  • Familiarity with general mechanical equipment and standard parts. Cylinders, valves, motors, cabinets etc.
  • Manufacturing background is desirable with steel, welding, fabrication, etc.

Communication/ Contacts

  • Regular interaction with Engineering manager, Project Managers, Maintenance and manufacturing team.

Decision Making

  • Establish and maintain a project schedule.
  • Identify design issues early and present preferred solution(s) to team.

Experience and Education

  • Engineering degree or associate degree, mechanical or industrial preferred. Or similar work experience.
  • Hands on experience.
  • Proactive & Self driven
