Process Improvement Engineer


In support of our client, a large manufacturer of home products, we have an immediate need for a Process Improvement Engineer to assist in ongoing projects for their Jackson, TN facility. This is a full time, direct hire opportunity.

 

Selected candidate will be responsible for leading Process Improvement methodologies. This role is to work with Plant Production and Product Engineering to determine and develop the most appropriate production processes, locations, and work centers to carry out the manufacturing of products. It is the Process Improvement Engineer’s responsibility to work with engineering to design, develop, and procure tooling, fixtures, and equipment to carry out these manufacturing processes to meet the stated project goals. They are also responsible to oversee the complete project from concept through to production ramp up.

 

The incumbent will have the ability to develop new approaches to solve problems found during process engineering activities and instruct others in continuous process improvements, including using various problem-solving methods and efficiency techniques such as process mapping and statistical problem solving. This position ultimately determines the appropriate engineering disciplines and methods to apply toward the problem.

 

Nature & Scope

  • Prefer Orange Belt Certification using statistical methods for analyzing data to evaluate current process factor and factor performance after process changes. Must analyze data to determine the controlling process factors and their interactions and make conclusions based on findings.

  • Develop strategies and programs that improve the quality and efficiencies of processes within the company. Communicate significant issues identified during activities and provide recommendation.

  • Facilitate Continuous Improvement type events, such as 3P’s and Lean Line design events, to establish the most efficient method of production prior to launch and oversee the build.

  • Plan the manufacturing process needed to create, modify, assemble, test, or inspect product components in a safe, efficient and ergonomically sound way.

  • Design a broad range of tooling, cutting tools, fixtures, equipment, and gauges to implement these processes for production using Lean principles and tools.

  • Procure tooling, fixtures, equipment and gauges in a timely fashion to meet the stated project goals.

  • Modify tooling, fixture, and equipment designs according to trial or production service data to improve quality, reliability, or cost.

  • Project management of process design and procurement.

  • Be able to take on additional projects with little to no guidance.

     

    Education & Experience/Skills

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Chemical Engineering or Industrial Engineering is preferred or equivalent experience. In addition, this position typically requires a candidate possessing a minimum of 5+ years’ experience as an engineer in a manufacturing environment and has demonstrated they can manage process development to launch a project successfully.

  • Must have high level of technical knowledge regarding CI methodologies and have demonstrated problem solving, planning, and project management skills from previous work experience.

  • Must possess good interpersonal skills to be able to effectively communicate with and build strong working relationships with individuals and within teams at all levels of the organization.

  • Must be skilled at facilitating and leading cross-functional teams through structured CI processes such as Lean Line Design and 3P type events.

  • Should be able to think and act independently with little direct guidance.

  • Must demonstrate a strong analytical problem-solving approach to their work

  • Will have demonstrated their tooling knowledge in various areas of the plant and possess the ability to manage people in an efficient manner when required. They should have the communication skills to communicate with all levels of the organization.
