Project Electrical Engineer


In partnership with our client, a global leader in aluminum and metals manufacturing, we are seeking a Project Electrical Engineer to support heavy industrial capital projects at their Huntingdon, TN manufacturing facility. This is a direct hire position with our client.

Position Summary

Project Electrical Engineer is responsible for everyday project activities, quality control and project delivery, overseeing all phases of the project from design to contract documents and specification development, shop drawing checks, site oversight, and project closeout. He or She works as a member of the Project Management Team which is responsible to plan and oversee the project to ensure a timely and cost effective outcome. Ensure the project is constructed in a safe, ethical manner and in compliance with all federal, state, and local laws. Working in coordination with the Rolling Mill Project Manager and equipment OEMs, the Project Electrical Engineer will have direct responsibility for leading the electrical design, electrical installation, and electrical commissioning of the rolling mill expansion to ensure a successful project.

Major Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the safety of all assigned employees and subcontractors to ensure the safe execution of all activities, including the strict adherence to company safety policies and programs through the communication and enforcement of the Granges Safety and Health Management Program, including the ability to independently stop work for a safety violation or suspected safety violation
  • Work closely with equipment suppliers and oversee outside engineering firms in development of electrical installation drawings.
  • Recommend hiring and termination of subcontractors / vendors including negotiations, sub agreements, material agreements and PO’s
  • Management of subcontractors and vendors schedule, performance, and payments, including the exercise of decision-making to reschedule and/or re-coordinate work to ensure compliance with applicable project schedules.
  • Management of subcontractors to ensure compliance with electrical construction standards.
  • Complete understanding of the contract including Granges contractual obligations and the supplier’s obligations
  • Identify Project Risk and independently develop Mitigation Plans
  • Ensure timely notices as required to protect Granges’ interests regarding extra work, design changes, delays, impacts, etc., which requires independent contract analysis
  • Manage project claims in collaboration with Granges’ Legal Department
  • Project submittals, process RFIs & shop drawings, as required

  • Thorough understanding of electrical standards as applicable to construction and manufacturing
  • Medium Voltage drives & PLC programming experience a plus.

Education and/or Experience

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering preferred, but experience may be considered in lieu of an EE degree

• Minimum of 5 years of industry experience required working within heavy manufacturing/construction projects.

Work Environment/Job Conditions

This job is performed both in the office and in the field. Field work requires experience and confidence working in and around heavy industrial equipment, systems and conditions is required. Activities and responsibilities require frequent sitting (often working on a computer), frequent driving, flying, walking, standing, light lifting, bending, and reaching. Due to computer usage, there may be repetitive motions of the hands and wrists.
