Contract Controls Engineer

Our client, a leader in building material, is currently seeking a Contract Controls Engineer to join their manufacturing and engineering team on a based assignment estimated to last 3+ months.

This position supports the automation department in their Prescott, AR facility. Selected candidate will be responsible for assisting with PLCs (Allen Bradley), AC/DC drives, HMI's (Wonderware and integrator) and providing project management as needed.


  • Develop electrical and controls system design solutions based on accepted engineering practices.
  • Provide technical and logistical support to internal customers.


  • Analyze project requirements and perform technical calculations supporting design including electrical requirements, Arc Flash requirements, Lock-out-tag- requirements, robotic safety safety requirements and motor controls.
  • Create and finalize designs to meet project scope of work and safety requirements.
  • Create accurate Bill of Materials and spare part requirements.
  • Define equipment and parts from external suppliers and alternate sources.
  • Conduct cost and time estimation with the ability to work with data storage systems and network topology.

Project Execution:

  • Oversee project workflow and support internal and external resources to ensure on-time delivery of projects, expected quality, and allotted budget.
  • Electrical, software design of customized solutions including manufacturing automation and safety systems. Able to maintain project scope and identify project creep.
  • Support manufacture, build and validation of systems which include pneumatics, servos, vfd’s, relays, communication networks, touchscreens, pushbuttons and robotic integration.
  • Create documentation such as user manuals, programming diagrams, network diagrams, and electrical drawings.
  • Ability to architect programs that are simple to test, well documented and versatile.
  • Able to support program conversions from different PLC manufactures’.

Project Completion:

  • Maintain accurate records and files according to quality standard.
  • Commission customized products and systems onsite.

Job requirements:

  • Applicants must be a citizen of the United States.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (or similar related degree) is preferred.
  • +5 years related job experience and ideally be proficient with Allen Bradley RSLogix 5000, Modicon, Indusoft, AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Strong fundamental knowledge of control and electrical system design and its application in automated industrial designs including specification of vision, power, sensor, inspection, and communications systems.
  • Efficiently organize and plan work tasks to meet company goals.
  • Critical thinking with exceptional problem-solving skills, able to work independently and in team environments.
  • Proactive, resourceful & highly motivated with good communication skills and ability to work in high output environment.
  • Ability to balance multiple projects.

This is an immediate need and selected candidate will be able to join our client's engineering team ASAP. Upon completion of this 3+ month project, there is a strong possibility of additional long and short term projects in other parts of the US.
