In support of our client, a large manufacturing facility, we are seeking an experienced Project Engineer in Cherokee, AL. The right candidate will lead the comprehensive development of complete rail car designs ensuring conformance to FCA and customer requirements and compliance to AAR and FRA rules and regulations.  This is a direct hire opportunity.


Job Description

·         Project engineer will problem solve and provide solutions for requirements defined within the specifications to meet all applicable customer, internal and federal requirements.

·         The Project Engineer will provide direction and leadership to designers, design engineers, and Jr. Project Engineers.

  • Accountable for the design and development of complete freight car projects while ensuring conformance to specifications, federal regulations, internal and external customer requirements and deliverables.

  • Works in collaboration with and provides guidance and leadership to designers, design engineers and Jr. project engineers, to ensure conformance to schedules and design specifications

  • Develops 3D CAD models of the project freight car (Sr)

  • Conducts design reviews with internal and external customers

  • Provide support to Sales and Director of Specifications pertaining to new inquiries or customer questions

  • Ensures conformance AAR and FRA rules and requirements and all applicable structural load cases.

  • Attends and participates in production launches and sample cars

  • Apply engineering knowledge and principals to solve technical problems

  • Responsibility for comprehensive design documentation pertinent to the project; detail drawings, models, assembly drawings, arrangement drawings, BOM’s

  • Responsible for the correctness and accuracy of designs and documentation.

  • Maintains a working knowledge of AAR and FRA rules and regulations

  • Accountable for the comprehension and understanding of applicable customer, internal and federal regulations.

  • Maintains accurate, comprehensive, clear documentation and records associated with the project

  • Defines project plans and schedules for all project design and development activities with linkage to downstream functions (Sr)

  • Read and Interpret detail, assembly, application and arrangement drawings.


    Education and Experience Requirements

  • BSME or BSMet from an accredited college program plus a minimum of 5 years of solid design and development engineering experience or, a minimum 15 years of rail road freight car design and development experience with increasing levels of responsibility and a track record of successful projects.
  • A Professional Engineer license is preferred, but not required.
